Organized by Peter Café Sport, this is a unique competition of its kind and is even considered as one of the most radical in Portugal, having, over the years, gained a great reputation among Athletes, the Public and Media. The Peter Café Sport Triathlon takes place between the islands of S. Jorge, Pico and Faial, in windsurfing, mountain biking and kayaking.
The first edition of the mythical adventure race took place in 1993 and until 2004 it was always disputed in the category of individual athletes. As of that year, the organization opened registration for teams. In 2006 and 2007 the event suffered an interregnum, but it returned in 2008 with its 14th edition, with the organization opting to make the event biannual from that year.
Twelve miles from Atlantic from São Jorge to Pico in windsurfing on a channel frequented by dolphins, sharks, and sperm whales. Then you have to cycle 40 km of mountain biking, with a rise in sea level up to 1,000 meters, even at the foot of the highest mountain in Portugal going down to Porto Velho da Madalena, passing through lava fields planted with vineyards. And paddle another 5 miles to the goal at Porto da Horta, Faial, in front of Café Sport.
More than two decades after the first edition, the balance of the Peter Café Sport Triathlon race is extremely positive. This international event is already a reference in the nautical world and throughout its history has counted on the participation of hundreds of athletes, from Olympic athletes, world champions to pure adventure lovers.
In September 2013 the Peter Café Sport Triathlon event was held for the first time in its history outside the Azores, in Continental territory, in the Algarve.
Year after year the organization has been perfecting and improving the event so that Triathlon is always an attractive, challenging sporting competition and a unique reference for local and international sport.
