Neptune in Horta

On Saturday, February 15, 1986 between noon and 4 PM, the largest storm of the 20th century unexpectedly happened with wind reaching speeds of 250 km/h.

José Henrique Azevedo took pictures during and after the storm. The waves reached heights between 15 and 20 meters, with the breaking reaching 60 meters.

Two years later, when he wanted to show the event more easily to the yachtsmen who visited Peter’s Café Sport, José Henrique developed two slides into paper photos. He then found out that, when he took one of them, a human figure (hair, eyes, nose, mouth and beard) had formed during the wave breaking, and he named it the "Neptune in Horta."
